Working in a similar way and towards the same goal as traditional braces, ceramic braces instead use materials that allow them to look more natural and a lot more subtle. Just like traditional metal braces, ceramic braces are fixed to the front of the teeth, but they are made with clear ceramic blocks and tooth-coloured wires allowing for a much more subtle look.
These brackets and archwires work to move the teeth into the desired position, and like all orthodontic treatments, the duration of the treatment is different for every patient. The treatment time can take a little longer than with metal braces, but because patients find them so much more comfortable and less obtrusive to their appearance, theyโre usually happy to accept this time-frame.
Because they are fixed to the teeth, patients will find they have to take extra special care of their oral health while undergoing treatment. There will also likely be certain foods you may want to avoid as they can be particularly hard on the braces and difficult to eat. As with all orthodontic treatments, we will recommend a retainer after your treatment, which you will have to wear to ensure your teeth donโt revert to their original positions.
